It is assumed that all acknowledge that the practice of medical hypnotherapy must be rendered with integrity, compassion, belief in the dignity and worth of all human beings, respect for individual differences, a commitment to service, and a dedication to truth. Further, that it requires that the medical hypnotherapist master a body of knowledge and acquire a sufficient number of skills to be competent.  This knowledge and these skills are acquired through professional education and experience.

I. The member assumes responsibility for maintaining the current professional standards of the League and strives to enhance those standards personally by assessing, applying, and increasing his or her knowledge on which practice and theory are based, and to further evolve the philosophy and the skills of the profession.

II. The member chooses to make his or her prime objective as a medical hypnotherapist one of rendering service to humanity with full respect for the dignity of the individual. He or she seeks to win the confidence of his or her clients.

III. The member observes all laws pertaining to the profession and upholds the dignity and honor of the profession.

IV. The member chooses his or her own clients. However, in an emergency, the member will carefully consider rendering service. In the instance of an established client that is no longer desired as a client by the member, the member will give adequate notice and explanation to the client.

V. The member will not neglect the needs of his or her clients as appropriate to the profession.

VI. The member will not sell or recommend to a client any book or tape or educational material that is not considered by the member to be in the best interest of the client.

VII. The member will seek the professional opinion of a licensed physician or mental health care provider under the following conditions:

A. The client requests that the member do so.

B. The client’s objectives are medically or psychologically directed.

C. The member is doubtful as to the best method of rendering treatment.

VIII. The member will maintain client confidentiality except for the following conditions:

A. The client has given permission to do so.

B. The member is required to do so by law.

C. The member must do so to protect the welfare of the client or society.

IX. The member will avoid dual relationships with clients which might impede professional judgment or increase the risk of client exploitation.

X. The member shall strive to stay informed on matters affecting the practice of medical hypnosis in his or her community, the state, and the nation, and be able to contribute responsibly and knowledgably to public opinion on such matters.

XI. The member shall strive to be informed about laws and proposed legislation.

XII. The member shall do business in a manner that avoids unnecessary conflict with fellow members or other medical hypnotherapists.

XIII. The member shall honestly and realistically present him- or herself in advertising and representations to the public.

XIV. The member shall not solicit the services or affiliation of an employee or independent contractor in the organization of another medical hypnotherapist without prior notice to said employer.

XV. The member shall not speak disparagingly about a competitor. If his or her opinion is sought and the member deems it appropriate, he or she will offer his or her opinion with integrity and courtesy.

XVI. The member shall not engage in the illegal practice of medicine or psychology.

XVII. The member shall educate the client that it is he or she, the client, that brings about change. The member shall stress his or her role as a vehicle, emphasizing that it is the client’s enlarged awareness that evokes the response.

XVIII. The member shall refrain from self-aggrandizement at the expense of the client’s sense of autonomy and independence.

XIX. The member shall keep current his or her certification and registration with the American Board of Hypnotherapy.

XX. The member shall keep current his professional liability insurance at $500,000 per incident and $1,000,000 aggregate levels annually as a practicing medical hypnotherapist.

XXI. The member shall remit renewal fees of $35.00 per annum within fifteen days upon the due date.

XXII. The member shall observe the rules of parliamentary procedure during League meetings, i.e., wait to be recognized by the secretary, movements to vote, majority votes, etc.
